The staggering loss of bodily autonomy is just beginning to be felt by women across this nation. The Ghost Brides series explores the huge gamble that is marriage for women, especially for those who no longer have legal possession over themselves. Using overt imagery of hands of cards, squealing pigs, and dresses without women inside them, asks the viewer plainly to reexamine the institution of marriage and a woman’s place in America.

With the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, women in America are now officially unprotected and in legal limbo over their own bodies in a growing number of states. The Federal government has done nothing to support the restoration of this most basic human right, which makes every elected official complicit in the killing, torture and enslavement of American women. These 3 pieces are windows into the complicated life and uncertain future of the American woman, and challenge the viewer to face this injustice head on.
